A 49-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of five young people in Co Donegal.
Brendan Henderson, of Seven Oaks, Waterside, Derry, was involved in a two car crash at Quigleys Point on 8 October 2005.
All of the victims of the collision were in their early 20s.
Mr Henderson is accused of dangerous driving causing the deaths of Rochelle Peoples, David Steele, Gavin Duffy, Charlene O'Connor and Darren Quinn.
The court was told that the delay in bringing charges relating to the crash was because the accused had suffered serious injuries and had spent a significant period in hospital.
Supt Jimmy Coen also stressed that there had been a comprehensive investigation,
Mr Henderson sat in a wheelchair for the hearing.
His solicitor, Maoliosa Barr, indicated that Mr Henderson would be pleading not guilty to the charge.
The judge asked why there was just one charge and suggested that it might be more appropriate for five separate charges to be brought to reflect each alleged victim.
The case was adjourned until 20 May for the preparation and service of the Book of Evidence.
Mr Henderson was granted free legal aid.
