Student gets six years for manslaughter

A 21-year-old Limerick student has been sentenced to six years in prison for the manslaughter of his neighbour in 2006.

Joseph (Jody) Buston from Croom in Co Limerick was found guilty of the manslaughter of 59-year-old Liam O'Donovan on 4 November 2006.

During the trial, the jury heard that Mr O'Donovan had been stabbed through the heart after Mr Buston entered the house and was confronted.

Mr Justice Paul Carney described the case as a great tragedy for both families.

Speaking afterwards, Liam O'Donovan's brother said they were devastated by what happened. He said his brother was loved by his community and family.
