A 30-year-old man has been charged with the murders of Michael Hanrahan and his son Denis at Listowel District Court.
Thomas Barrett of Cleandries, Causeway, Co Kerry, was charged at a special sitting of the court this evening.
He replied 'no' when each of the charges were put to him.
Judge Mary O'Halloran remanded Thomas Barrett in custody following a garda application. The hearing was over in three minutes.
Thomas Barrett, dressed in a casual shirt and open top, did not speak throughout.
He was taken from the court by gardaí, as around 100 people gathered outside. He will spend the next two days at Cork Prison before returning to court in Listowel on Wednesday.
Denis and Michael Hanrahan will be buried following their funeral Mass later that day, alongside Michael's wife Ann who died over a decade ago.
