A seven-year-old boy has been killed in a road accident involving an unmarked garda car in north Dublin.
The collision happened near the Clearwater Shopping Centre in Finglas Village at about 11am this morning.
The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman Commission in accordance with normal procedure.
A section of the N2 near Finglas was closed to traffic in both directions because of the accident. The road is likely to remain closed for much of the evening.
Diversions are in place through Collins Avenue for city bound traffic and Griffith Avenue for outbound traffic.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible.
People travelling from the northern direction in particular are asked to use the M1 or the N3 if travelling to the city centre.
Man killed in separate Finglas crash
A 26-year-old man has been killed in an unrelated road accident in Finglas.
The man had been driving a car that was in collision with a truck on Cappagh Road at about 9.30am this morning.
He was taken for treatment to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was later pronounced dead.
No one else was seriously injured.
The road has been re-opened following a technical examination of the scene.
