A Dublin man convicted of running a city centre brothel has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined €24,000.

Martin Morgan, 44, was found guilty of running a brothel at a Bachelors Walk apartment in 2005.

The brothel was targeted as part of Operation Quest, which was set up in 2005 to deal with organised criminal prostitution in the city.

Morgan, formerly of Herbert Road, Blanchardstown and with an address at Blackstock Road, London, was arrested when gardaí raided an apartment on Bachelors Walk on 10 October, 2005.

He had been under surveillance since Operation Quest was established.

Morgan told gardaí after his arrest that he had no business interest in Ireland and was in Dublin on that occasion to visit his children.

He denied the charges at the start of his at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, which was expected to run a week, but lasted 18 days.

Today in court, Mr Justice Frank O'Donnell said the brothel was 'well organised, sophisticated and very rewarding.'

Ruhama, who work with women involved in prostitution welcomed today's sentence of Morgan.

Gerardine Rowley, of Ruhama, said: 'A key player in the sex industry has been sentenced. This is an industry where women are abused on a vast scale. It is important that the people who runs these operations are seen as criminals, and are jailed.'
