Gardaí are investigating the fatal collision on the Naas Road in Citywest, Dublin, yesterday that left one of their own seriously injured and killed two young men.
The off-duty garda is said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Owen Merriman, 19, from Palmerstown Woods in Clondalkin and Lee Mooney, 19, of Woodford Park Road in Clondalkin, died in the two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning.
The two men had been travelling in the wrong direction on the dual carriageway when their car struck the vehicle being driven by the off-duty garda.
