Over 2,000 people gathered for a vigil on Benbulben Road in Drimnagh this evening in memory of two men who were fatally injured in an attack in the area last week.

29-year-old Pavel Kalite and 27-year-old Marius Szwajkos both died in hospital.

In a letter released this evening, the family of Mariusz Szwajkos have expressed their gratitude for the messages of solidarity and condolences they have received following his death.

They have also thanked gardaí for updating them on the progress of their investigation.

The family says it has lost part of their life forever and that life will never be the same.

The family says it would like to believe that the tragic deaths of the two men will result in a public debate about what they term the increasing level of aggression by youths.

The Taoiseach has appealed to anyone with information about the murders last Saturday to come forward.

Three teenagers who were arrested as part of the investigation have been released and files are being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
