Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has appealed for information that could assist the investigation into the murders of two men in Drimnagh in Dublin.

Pavel Kalite and Marius Szwajkos were attacked and fatally stabbed in Drimnagh last Saturday.

Mr Ahern described the deaths as a tragedy and a very sad event, and said he denounced what happened in the strongest possible terms.

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Brian Lenihan, has said the gardaí are following a large number of leads in the double murder investigation.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's Drivetime, Mr Lenihan said he discussed the investigation with the Polish Ambassador to Ireland this afternoon.

The Minister said gardaí were making good progress in the investigation and those involved in the killings will have to be brought to justice.

Three teenagers have been questioned and released as part of the investigation.

In all three cases, files are being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin has said that his heart goes out to the families of the two men.

He paid tribute to Mr Kalite and Mr Szwajkos, saying that they had come here to work and to do well, adding that everyone said they contributed greatly to the local community.

Archbishop Martin called on the local community to stand together, to speak out and to try to reach out to young people involved in violence.

He said that the problem of violence among young people was destroying peoples' lives and breaking up communities.

Members of the local community in Drimnagh are to hold a silent vigil at the scene of the attacks tomorrow evening.
