Clonakilty - Guilty verdict
Clonakilty - Guilty verdict

Hadim Kedik has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his estranged partner, Rose Patterson.

Rose Patterson, 30, was found dead in a flat belonging to Hadim Kedik on Connolly Street in Clonakilty, Co Cork, last April.

She had suffered multiple stab wounds, and he was found lying beside her, with self-inflicted wounds.

Kedik had pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Patterson, saying he did inflict injury, but never planned to kill her.

During the trial the Central Criminal Court heard that the estranged couple had been arguing over access visits to their 21-month-old son.

Kedik claimed that after being pushed twice, he picked up a black handled knife and swung it at Ms Patterson two or three times.

The court heard that she died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Today the court was read a victim impact statement from Rose Patterson's family, which said she was an only child and the focus of her mother's life.

The family's statement said that she had loved and cared for her children dearly and that the biggest impact would be on them.

The family said that Rose Patterson's death would have consequences into the future in particular for her son, who would have to come to terms with the fact that his mother's life had been cut short by his father in his presence.

It took the jury of seven men and four women over four hours to reach the guilty verdict.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy backdated the life sentence to 16 April of last year.
