Weather conditions in the south and west have been improving after overnight snowfalls which made driving conditions extremely hazardous.
The heaviest snowfalls were in Cork, Kerry, Galway and Mayo.
Met Éireann says there may be further sleet and snow showers during the day and temperatures are set to drop again tonight.
Widespread frost is again expected, making driving conditions dangerous. The risk of fresh snow showers will be greater in the west.
No serious road accidents were reported overnight but gardaí are urging motorists to continue to exercise care over the next 48 hours.
Farmers in Galway say the past two months have been particularly difficult for livestock as a result of extremely heavy rainfall and very cold spells.
Met Éireann is predicting a return to stormier weather on Sunday.
