Three people have been killed in separate road accidents in Kidare, Dublin and Louth.

A 29-year-old man was killed on the main N9 Road in Co Kildare this morning.

The collision happened at 8.20am in Gorteen near Castledermot.

The man was killed when the car he was driving crossed over to the other side of the road and hit an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the other car sustained minor injuries.

Last night, a man was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Santry, Co Dublin.

The crash happened on the North Road at around 8pm.

Witnesses sought

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a road accident in Co Louth last night in which a 17-year-old youth was killed.

The single vehicle crash occurred at around 9.30pm on the Marsh Road in Drogheda.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station. Gardaí are particularly interested in speaking with the driver of a jeep that was seen on the road at around 10pm.

The road has been closed for a technical examination and is expected to remain closed until around lunchtime.

Diversions are in place as a result.

Motorists travelling from Drogheda to the Bettystown area are advised to use the Dublin Road.

Drivers travelling from Laytown/Bettystown to Drogheda will be diverted up the Mill Road towards Colpe.
