A man is in custody following an attempted armed robbery last night in Tallaght, Co Dublin.
A second man escaped, but two guns were recovered by gardaí at the scene.
They were responding to an alarm call after two men broke into a house in Virginia Heights on Blessington Road at around 11.30pm.
The occupants, a couple and their two adult sons, were threatened and shots were fired.
However, the men left without any money, and no-one was injured.
Gardaí detained a 31-year-old man about 300m from the scene, where a handgun and a shotgun were recovered, as well as a balaclava and some items of clothing.
