A man has been arrested after an attempted robbery at a Statoil station on Ushers Quay in Dublin.

The 29-year-old man had entered the petrol station carrying a large knife, and threatened the shop assistant.

Gardaí who were patrolling the area restrained and arrested the man at 6.35pm last night. The arrested man was taken to Kevin Street Garda Station where is detained under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act.

Nobody was injured in the incident and no cash was taken.

Gardaí were paying special attention to the area following a number of similar crimes that have occurred in the Kevin Street/Bridewell areas in recent weeks.
