Cork County Council has said it does not expect any further flooding in Mallow and Fermoy today.
Business owners and residents are still engaged in a clean-up operation after both towns were flooded on Thursday.
Met Éireann is forecasting heavy rainfall in the area tonight but the local authority says river levels have subsided sufficiently.
'River levels have dropped very significantly at this stage and all that's left at this stage is the big cleanup, which is ongoing now and will be for several days,' Aidan Weir, a senior engineer with Cork County Council, told RTÉ News.
'While there's a very heavy rainfall forecast for this evening, and when you're dealing with Mother Nature one can never be very sure about anything, but we are reasonably confident that there will be no further flooding for the moment in Mallow or Fermoy.'
Up to an inch of rain could fall this afternoon, with the wet weather continuing tonight and into Sunday, forecasters say.
