Gormley gets support for light bulb ban

The EC has indicated it will back a proposal to ban the use of traditional light bulbs.

Minister for the Environment John Gormley has said the European Commission has indicated it will back his proposal to ban the use of traditional light bulbs and replace them with long life, environmentally-friendly cfl bulbs.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's News at One, Mr Gormley said he discussed the issue with the Commission Vice-President in a meeting in Brussels yesterday.

The Green Party leader also said he would be advocating a 'yes' vote in favour of the Lisbon Treaty when party members vote on the issue at a special convention on 19 January.
