Two men are being treated in hospital following separate incidents in Dublin city centre overnight.

A 17-year-old youth is in a critical condition following a fight on Middle Abbey Street.

He was found following a fight involving a number of men at around 2.30am. He was initially brought to the Mater Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont.

A 29-year-old man is being questioned in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, a man in his 40s is being treated at St James's Hospital after being found with serious head injuries at the junction of Nassau Street and Grafton Street at around 2am.

The man, who is believed to have been living in the Clonskeagh area of Dublin, is originally from Scotland.

He is in a stable condition.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
