Two brothers have appeared in court in connection with the death of a man near north Belfast.

Kevin Coiley, 45, died at his home in Longlands Park in Newtownabbey after a night out at a nearby social club.

Ciaran Corbett, 29, from Catherine Court in the Whitewell Road area of Belfast was charged with manslaughter.

His brother Michael Corbett, 36, from Whitewell Court, was charged with assault.

Both were remanded in custody.

Mr Coiley, who had recently got married, had been at a Royal British Legion club at Old Church Road on the night of his death.

PSNI officers had to form a barrier between the two families in the packed public gallery, as the court heard that the brothers had gone to Antrim Road Police Station three hours after Mr Coiley was found dead.

A PSNI officer told the court there was CCTV footage allegedly showing an altercation between the deceased and Michael Corbett.

He added that Ciaran Corbett had allegedly punched Mr Coiley once.

Opposing bail, the PSNI officer said there would be 'potential for some kind of disorder' if the brothers were released.

The magistrate refused bail and the two men were remanded in custody to appear again in court on 10 January.
