A 50-year-old man has been killed in a road accident on the outskirts of Gort, Co Galway .
The motorcyclist from Co Kerry was involved in a collision with a car at Glenbrack on the main Gort to Galway road shortly before 4pm.
The man is understood to have been returning to Kerry from Galway city where he had been visiting friends.
He died at the scene and his body has been removed to University College hospital in Galway.
The collision occurred at a sharp bend on the road at what is locally regarded as an accident black spot.
A team of garda road accident investigators are continuing to examine the scene.
The N18 Gort/Galway Road is closed until further notice just outside Gort.
Diversions are in place but HGVs and trucks are urged to travel via Loughrea on the N6 as the back roads on the diversion route are very narrow.
Meanwhile five people have been injured, one seriously, in a single car crash in Roscommon town tonight.
The accident happened on the Lanesborough Rd at 8pm, and gardaí are investigating.
