Two men have been charged at Cork District Court with the murder of a 24-year-old man in August.
Jason Quinlan, 29, of Loughmahon Drive in Mahon and John Brett, 24, of Leitrim Street in Cork, were charged with the murder of Brian McKee on Ballinure Avenue in Mahon on 25 August this year.
Neither man replied when charged.
Brian McKee was returning from a house party at Mahon in Cork city in the early hours of 25 August when he got into a fight and was stabbed a number of times.
He was found by the emergency services and taken to Cork University Hospital. He died later that day as a result of his injuries.
Mr Quinlan and Mr Brett were originally charged with assaulting Brian McKee. This morning the charges were changed to murder.
The State has withdrawn the assault charge against Jason Quinlan and it is anticipated that the assault charge against John Brett will be withdrawn when his case comes before the court again tomorrow.
Inspector Michael Comyns applied for Jason Quinlan's case to be adjourned until next Wednesday for the purpose of preparation and service of a book of evidence.
