Two sentenced for raid on Dublin pharmacy

An armed robber who threatened to shoot a garda following a raid on a pharmacy and his accomplice have been sentenced.

32-year-old Philip Tormey of Dunmanus Road, Cabra has been given a seven-year sentence and accomplice Jason Mahony, of Bannon Road, Cabra was given a five-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Both men pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and the false imprisonment of Ms Geraldine Timmons at Janet Dillon Pharmacy.

Tormey and Mahony burst into the pharmacy on Manor Street in Dublin on 3 April last year.

Tormey pointed the gun at staff while Mahony began filling up a black bag with drugs.

Ms Timmons opened the till when the gun was shoved in her face and asked Tormey not to shoot her.

The pair left with €720 cash and €944 worth of drugs as well as several phones and wallets.

However gardaí arrived as they tried to escape.

Tormey hit Garda Eoin Colbert on the head with the gun and pressed it into his torso but he was wrestled to the ground and arrested by gardaí despite him pointing the gun and threatening to shoot them.
