Cocaine found on Shannon plane

An estimated €70,000 worth of drugs were discovered on board a plane at Shannon Airport yesterday.

An estimated €70,000 worth of cocaine was discovered on board a plane at Shannon Airport yesterday.

The aircraft was undergoing routine maintenance at a hangar at the airport when staff made the discovery in an overhead luggage compartment.

Customs officials were notified and a package containing 1.1kg of what is thought to be cocaine was seized.

Gardaí are now interviewing staff that made the discovery.

The aircraft is understood to have originated in Amsterdam and had travelled to Shannon for a maintenance check.
