A detective garda sergeant, who has been charged with leaking documents to a journalist, has been sent forward for trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
At a brief hearing before Judge Leo Malone at the Dublin District Court this morning, the solicitor for the State gave consent for Robert McNulty to be sent forward for trial.
Mr McNulty, 48, formerly of Store Street and Bridewell garda stations, has been charged with disclosing the contents of a draft report of the Commission of Investigation into the Dean Lyons case.
Judge Leo Malone remanded Mr McNulty on continuing bail of €100.
It is expected that his trial will take place during the current sitting of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Mr McNulty was charged with the offence last month under the Commission of Investigation Act 2004. If found guilty he could face a fine of up to €300,000, or a period of imprisonment of up to five years.
Dean Lyons was a drug addict who confessed to murdering two women in their Dublin home ten years ago.
He was charged and appeared in court a number of times before it was revealed that he had made a false confession.
The Commission of Investigation examined the circumstances surrounding the case.
