PSNI officer shot in Dungannon

A PSNI officer has been shot in the chest in the Circular Road area of Dungannon, Co Tyrone.

Reports suggest the officer was hit a number of times while driving his car when he slowed down near traffic lights.

He had just finished a shift and was leaving the area near the local PSNI station when he was attacked.

It is understood the injured man managed to drive to a nearby PSNI station and he was brought to hospital.

Last week, dissident Republicans shot and injured a police officer in Derry.

Tonight's shooting has been condemned by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, and by Professor Sir Desmond Rea, Chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
