A 26-year-old man has been given a life sentence for murdering his mother two years ago.
Moses O'Connor, of Castlebyrne Park in Blackrock Co Dublin, pleaded guilty to murdering his 46-year-old mother, Regina, on a date between 23 and 26 November 2005.
The Central Criminal Court heard that Regina O'Connor died a very violent death. She suffered stab wounds to her back, neck and arm, her larynx was fractured and ten of her ribs were broken.
Detective Inspector Martin Cummins told the court Mr O'Connor was one of the most disturbed people he had ever come across in garda custody.
Mrs O'Connor came to Ireland after meeting her husband Andrew O'Connor in Rwanda in the mid-1980s.
He was a widower in his early 70s who had decided to go on a world tour.
The court heard that their son Moses was a gifted sportsman who went off the rails when he was in secondary school and became involved in drugs and crime. He has 26 previous convictions.
Mrs O'Connor who was originally from Rwanda was well known in Blackrock for her charity work and her gardening.
She had a barring order out against her son, but at the time of the murder he was living in the house with her.
She left most of her money to Moses when he turned 25 but the will also included strict conditions that he would only get the money if he was drug free.
Mr O'Connor killed his mother shortly before his 25th birthday.
