Northern Ireland's Sports Minister, Edwin Poots, has said the GAA must do more to bring the Protestant and Unionist community in the North into the organisation.

Mr Poots received a warm welcome from delegates at a GAA conference when he became the first member of the DUP to attend a gaelic games function.

He assured the conference that as Minister for Sport at Stormont he would do nothing to interfere with the running of the GAA.

However, he urged the association to examine how the 1m Protestants in Northern Ireland could be encouraged to embrace the gaelic sport and culture.
