Bellacorick cooling tower pulled down

watch

One of the Ireland's last peat-burning power stations was demolished in a spectacular controlled explosion today.

The station at Bellacorick in north Mayo has been disused since 2005 and its huge cooling tower had to be dismantled for health and safety reasons.

The well-known landmark provided seasonal employment for up to 600 workers for nearly 50 years.
