Swimmer rescued off Galway Bay

A swimmer who got into difficulty in Galway Bay earlier this evening, has been air lifted to hospital by a Coast Guard helicopter.

The man was about 1km off shore at Salthill when friends became concerned for his safety.

The helicopter succeeded in winging him from the sea and she was flown to University College Hospital Galway a short time ago.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said he was in 'a comfortable condition'.
