Protestors play harps outside Dáil

watch

Opponents of the construction of the M3 motorway through lands around the Hill of Tara have been staging a demonstration outside the Dáil.

A number of harpers performed there this afternoon as part of the protest to have the motorway rerouted.

The World Monument Fund has said it is horrified at the prospect of a radical alteration to lands around the Hill of Tara to facilitate the motorway.

President of the fund, Bonnie Burnham, said it would be a huge loss to the world if Tara's surrounding landscape is destroyed for a motorway development.

The organisation also believes the motorway would only encourage more rapid and inappropriate development.

The organisation has called on the relevant authorities to reconsider their decision.
