The average person rates their health at nearly eight out of ten, according to the Pfizer Health Index.
A third of respondents said they would not want information on conditions they were at risk of developing.
The HSE says the study shows the importance of putting a greater emphasis on health promotion and prevention.
The HSE says more supports need to be put in place to help people to improve their health as well as focusing on issues like housing, education and environment that have a major impact on peoples' wellbeing.
