The former newspaper tycoon, Conrad Black, is facing a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of fraud and obstructing justice.
A court in Chicago convicted Black and three co-defendants of defrauding investors in his company, Hollinger International, of millions of dollars.
He is to appeal the decision.
The Chief Prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, welcomed the outcome of the trial.
