Mobile option for welfare customers

Welfare recipients on the Telephone Allowance Scheme will be given the option of having a paid-for mobile phone instead of a landline.

Welfare recipients who qualify for the Telephone Allowance Scheme are to be given the option of having a paid-for mobile phone instead of a fixed landline.

The initiative will also apply to over 250,000 people who are aged over 66.

The Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Séamus Brennan, announced full details of the new mobile initiative at a function at Custom House in Dublin this afternoon.
