Aer Lingus - SIPTU to hold work stoppage at Dublin, Shannon

Aer Lingus has said it expects disruption to flights at Dublin and Shannon Airports tomorrow because of a work stoppage by SIPTU members.

The union opposes the Government's privatisation plans for the airline.

A meeting to agree pension and working conditions with representatives of baggage handlers, administration and catering staff ended this afternoon without full agreement. Talks lasted over an hour.

Six flights, including one transatlantic flight, will be directly affected by SIPTU's decision to hold a meeting between 9.45am and 11am tomorrow.

SIPTU says it has major concerns about pay, pensions, job security and working conditions following the sale of the company, which is due to take place later this year.

The union has threatened to engage in all-out strike action if its concerns are not addressed before the sell-off.

A group of independent TDs has warned Aer Lingus workers about promises given by the company ahead of any possible sale of the airline.

Spokeswoman for the group, Catherine Murphy, claimed 100 former TEAM workers are being told that Aer Lingus is refusing to implement a Supreme Court judgment on their case.

Flight schedules at Dublin Airport were returning to normal today after chaos caused by a hoax bomb alert yesterday.
