The British government has been criticised after announcing it will give the Orange Order more than £100,000 to help it try to popularise the annual 12 July parade in Belfast.

The aim is to turn the 12th parade in the city into a tourist attraction and a boost for local business, despite years of being portrayed in a negative light.

Northern Ireland's Social Development Minister, David Hanson, said he had approved an application for the County Grand Lodge of Belfast for funding of £104,000 for a new development officer.

However, Sinn Féin has described the development as 'wrong and unacceptable'.
