ISPCA launches probe after monkey rescue

The Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has launched an investigation after a monkey was discovered trapped without food or water in a van belonging to a travelling show.

The monkey had been locked inside a filthy cage with no light for more than a week.

He was discovered by a mechanic carrying out repairs on the van at a garage in Stradbally, Co Laois.

The ISPCA said the animal was dehydrated and traumatised and has been taken to a monkey sanctuary for veterinary treatment and rehabilitation.

It will remain there indefinitely.
