13 appear in court over protests & looting

Thirteen of the 41 people arrested in connection with today's rioting in Dublin's city centre have appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court.

Thirteen of the 41 people arrested in connection with today's rioting in Dublin's city centre have appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court, charged with various public order offences.

Four people have been charged with smashing the windows of a store on O'Connell Street and looting the contents.

The defendants are aged between 17 and 30, and include two women.

One 20-year-old man is charged with arson, causing €20,000 worth of damage to two Mercedes cars.

A number of people were charged with throwing bricks and glass bottles at gardaí.

Most of those charged were remanded in custody with consent to bail. However, bail was refused to two of the accused.
