Police in the North believe they have foiled a major bomb attack in Derry.

A van that contained up to 1200lbs of explosives was discovered near the Foyle Bridge in the city early this morning.

The device was defused by army bomb experts who say it was primed.

Police say it was designed to cause immense damage.

Dissident republicans are being blamed.
