Paul Herriott revisits one of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra concerts from 2020. In this concert the orchestra play seasonally themed works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky.

This week marks two major anniversaries the 40th anniversary of the death of John Lennon the 100th Anniversary of the Burning of Cork. First to John Lennon where The RTE Concert Orchestra, conducted by Gavin Murphy is joined by a host of wonderful Irish artists Liam O'Maonlai, Jerry Fish, Andrea Corr, James Vincent McMorrow and Faye O’Rourke to celebrate Lennon's prolific musical output. The is followed by the marking of the second of our anniversaries which features a new composition recorded by the RTE Concert Orchestra titled 'The Burning of Cork’ marking the centenary of The Burning of Cork, a new and powerful orchestral suite by Corkonian Paul Frost vividly commemorating the events of the night of Dec 11, 1920. Recently recorded by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and featuring emotive solos by violinist Mia Cooper and pianist Gary Beecher.
Killian Donnelly, Susan McFadden (pictured) and Muirgen O'Mahony join the RTE Concert Orchestra for an evening of musical theatre. From Oklahoma! to The Sound of Music, West Side Story to Les Miserables, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and conductor David Brophy will have you whistling a happy tune.
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra present a concert of Christmas favourites with a host of great guests under the direction of Gavin Maloney. Their musical Christmas stocking will include some ballet dances from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker to choral favourites with RTÉ Cór na nÓg and Cór Linn. Soloists Rachel Croash and Brian Dunphy will have you Decking the Halls and Roasting Chestnuts, and Zoe Conway & John McIntyre will add a uniquely Irish flair to the proceedings.
Join Paul Herriott and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra under the baton of David Brophy as they celebrate the 2021 in Viennese style. Soprano Celine Byrne adds some sparkle for the day that is in it as she sings arias by Lehar, Strauss and Sieczynski.
