Peter O’Brien on designing big skirts for the House of Rochas in Paris.
London-born designer Peter O’Brien grew up in Finglas, Dublin. After graduating from St Martin’s School of Art in London, he worked for a number of designers in Paris.
Barbara McMahon of ‘Head to Toe’ did this interview with Peter while he was head designer at the House of Rochas in Paris. He says that the big skirts from his first collection proved so popular that they are now expected of him, but he likes making women look pretty and he thinks this is how they like to look, “as if they’ve spent a lot of money”. Part of his role includes dressing the French Rose for the Rose of Tralee, who ends up in one of his big skirts. He has also been involved in the selection of the Rose, but tries to pick only those who will look good in his clothes.
Peter O’Brien has also designed for Arnotts in Dublin.
