Few soldiers survived the war unscathed. Jimmy O'Brien of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers describes how he was shot in battle at Ypres.

Jimmy O'Brien describes being shot at the third battle of Ypres. Wounded in the shoulder he lay in a shell hole full of water.

"You see you were trained if your own brother was shot down you musn't stop you must go on. There is people coming behind to look after him like stretcher bearers and Red Cross men and that. You must go on."
