Fun on the streets of Dublin ahead of the People in Need telethon.
Fundraising activities are underway throughout the country as People in Need Day gets underway. Events are being organised throughout the country to coincide with the RTÉ Telethon events.
Preparations are also underway at the Mansion House which will be the financial nerve centre for the fundraising events.
Telephone pledges of donations will be managed by computer and volunteers at the Mansion House.
About three thousand metres of television cable have been laid and will transmit what happens to a microwave transmitter on the top of the Department of Finance building and on to Montrose to be transmitted via the RTÉ network.
This is one of the largest transmissions in RTÉ history and involves more than four hundred staff.
It is expected that money raised will exceed last year’s figure of three million pounds.
