The rebuilt St Kieran's School dedicated to providing education for Traveller children is opened in Bray.

St Kieran's School for Traveller children is officially opened by the Minister for Education Richard Burke in Bray, County Wicklow.

This will replace a school destroyed by fire 18 months ago.

Archbishop of Dublin Most Reverend Dermot Ryan blesses the premises, comprised of a school and a sheltered workshop for teenage Travellers. The new school has four classes and offers tuition in welding, carpentry, metalwork, cookery, dressmaking, craftwork and childcare.

St Kieran's caters for 130 children from North Wicklow and South County Dublin, whose ages range from 2-and-a-half to 13 years. In 1976, it will cost £14,000 to run St Kieran's. The management committee will receive a Government grant of £6,000, and the remainder will have to be raised through voluntary contributions.
