A massed choir mark the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising with 'One Hundred Years a Nation'.

Over 1,000 singers from 32 choirs took part in the premiere of a specially commissioned work, 'One Hundred Years a Nation' by composer Shaun Davey and poet Paul Muldoon. The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conductor David Brophy led the performance at Collins Barracks.

Young voices, and old, in the barracks square singing to a nation. Time for music to remember the Easter Rising with a nod to the Ireland of today.

Orlaith McBride, National Arts Council, describes the event as an incredible collaboration. Two of the singers, Diya Ryan from Sligo and Caroline Connolly from Dublin, talk about their pride in taking part in such a historic event.

Poet Paul Muldoon, who wrote the lyrics to the music by Shaun Davey, said it was a time to celebrate Ireland.

It is particularly poignant that the event is taking place at Collins Barracks. In 1916, the barracks were Royal Barracks. Soldiers marched from these barracks to suppress the rising. Now it is home to the National Museum of Ireland.

Echoing to the sound of a thousand choristers celebrating 100 years a nation.
