Ceremony at Arbour Hill marks the Easter Rising and commemorates the leaders of the 1916 Rising.

President Éamon de Valera and Taoiseach Seán Lemass were in attendance at the ceremony at Arbour Hill to commemorate the Easter Rising, and the executed leaders of 1916 who are buried in the grounds of the Church of the Sacred Heart.

President De Valera was received by Lt Gen S McKeown Chief of Staff and Col JP McNally OC Eastern Command upon his arrival at the Church of the Sacred Heart. There was a guard of honour from the Command Training Depot under Capt J Murphy of the 7th Infantry Battalion.

Mass was celebrated by Rev P Duffy, Acting Head Chaplain to the Forces with Rev P Boylan CF as Deacon and Rev P Collins CF Sub-Deacon, and Rev P McCabe CF as the Master of Ceremonies.

Following the mass there was a procession to the memorial where the Last Post was sounded.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were relatives and friends of the executed leaders of the 1916 Rising, government ministers and political party leaders.
