Who were the organisers behind violence which resulted in the arrest of 42 people in Dublin?

A Love Ulster rally planned for Dublin city centre had to be abandoned after violence broke out. However, the march never left its starting point at Parnell Square. Forty-two people were arrested and more arrests are expected in the coming days as Gardaí examine CCTV footage.

Gardaí are now trying to identify a core group who orchestrated the violence and the people who came armed with petrol bombs and other weapons.

Just who are the people who orchestrated that violence that occurred on Dublin streets yesterday?

Al McHugh, Garda assistant commissioner, describes how events unfolded when hundreds of people attacked the Love Ulster march.

Many of those were hell bent on random violence. They were armed with snooker balls, petrol bombs, lump hammers.

Minister for Justice, Michael MacDowell paid tribute to the Gardaí who tackled the rioters. He believes that the violence was deliberately orchestrated.

The march had planned to go down O'Connell Street. However, bricks from building sites were used to attack Gardaí, journalists, cameramen and photographers. Gardaí are currently examining CCTV to identify those responsible.
