Rubberbandits take on X Factor winner Matt Cardle in the race to be the Christmas number one.
Limerick duo Rubberbandits, Blindboy Boatclub and Mr Chrome, released the single 'Horse Outside' on 8 December 2010, with the video premiering on RTÉ comedy show 'The Republic of Telly'. Since then, 'Horse Outside' has gained more than 3 million hits on YouTube.
It's not your traditional festive single with 17 incidents of the F word, cars instead of choirboys and beasts instead of belles.
The Rubberbandits reject the argument that their song is not remotely suitable for Christmas as,
Santa Claus is based around the horse.
'Horse Outside' is currently number one in the download charts and is the bookies' favourite to be the Irish Christmas No 1. The other contender in the race is United Kingdom X Factor winner Matt Cardle with his single 'When We Collide', a cover of Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror'.
Hot Press assistant editor Stuart Clark suspects a lot of Matt Cardle CDs will be bought as Christmas presents, so Rubberbandits will need to sell more physical copies of their track to have a chance of beating the X Factor winner.
The 2010 Christmas No 1 will be known at lunchtime on Christmas Eve.
