An anti-internment protest organised by the Six Counties Republican Clubs takes place in Dublin.
Following the revelation of a kidnap plot, on 4 December 1970, the Taoiseach Jack Lynch announced that internment camps may be reopened. The possibility of invoking the Offences Against the State Act would remain until the government was satisfied that the threats of kidnapping and armed bank robberies were removed.
In response to this statement, an anti-internment protest organised by the Six Counties Republican Clubs takes place in Dublin. Some 400 marchers assemble at Binns Bridge in Drumcondra. Carrying placards, they march along O'Connell Street to the General Post Office (GPO). The main speaker at the GPO rally is Member of Parliament for Mid Ulster, Bernadette Devlin.
