A busy day for travel day as thousands of people make journeys to be with family and friends.

Plenty of activity at airports, train and bus stations across Ireland and Gardai are advising drivers to be extra careful on the roads.

Festive cheer, music and song, hugs and kisses welcomed people as they arrived home at Dublin Airport for Christmas.

In arrivals, one woman is waiting for her son to come home from New York and children wait for their grandmother from England. In departures, people queued to leave for sun and snow holidays, as well as people returning home to their native countries. One man from Lithuania is looking forward to seeing his family and friends.

Heuston Station in Dublin was also busy with Iarnród Éireann, expecting 400,000 passengers over the Christmas period. Bus Éireann said that up to 80,000 people were using its services today.

Siobhan Moore, Dublin Airport, has one piece of advice for passengers. For security reasons, passengers are asked not to wrap presents.
