Cream crackers, marbles, and a tin of beans help to explain some principles of science.

At the RDS in Dublin, a Science Live workshop gave some school children the chance to experiment using everyday items. This is just one of many events thousands of young people will take part in across the country during Science Week

During Science Live, cream crackers, oranges and a tin of beans were used to show the science relating to force, friction and motion. Scientists provided lessons on reducing friction using marbles and an empty bean tin. Force is explained using a matchbox, an orange and a mug. The young people taking part were also challenged to eat three cream crackers in one minute to demonstrate how saliva is needed to break down food.

Over 450 events are taking place throughout Science Week.
