Steady trade for Christmas turkeys, geese and ducks at the market in Ballinasloe, County Galway.

There is a good supply of birds on offer at Ballinasloe at the market held in Saint Michael's Square. Business is steady, with traders ready to make a deal.

Plenty of bargaining, but a raw deal from the turkey's point of view.

The going price for hen turkeys averages 60p per pound, with cocks going for around 50p per pound. Ducks are selling for about £1 each. There are also some geese on offer for £5 each. With hard bargaining, these sell for £4, with some changing hands for £4.50.
