What will Ireland be like in the next century and what changes does society face in the years ahead?
Ireland in the year 2000 is the subject of a three day conference organised by An Foras Forbartha, the National Institute for Physical Planning and Construction Research. Industry, agriculture, energy, town planning and education will all be discussed.
In his opening speech, Minister for Finance Michael O'Kennedy said that for those in positions of power, the next two decades will demand,
Courage, commitment and leadership qualities.
The population of Ireland is expected to grow in the next 20 years and this will place demands on employment, trade unions and government bodies. Mr Walker one of the conference organisers. He believes that the time to plan for the future is now with great considerations to be made for housing and infrastructure.
It’s not a long way away really.
